THEN

What can history tell us?

The Impact of Water through History and Mythology

In the THEN segment of Project Quest, students research the historical impact of water on an ancient civilization. This research is represented in a digital magazine. Through their study of religion and Latin, students also produce a water myth that results in a visual narrative.

Ancient Civilizations

Students research a water issue as it pertains to an ancient civilization of their choice. They investigate the natural environment of the civilization and explore questions such as "What was their fresh water source?" and "How did they control water?" Their findings, when combined with articles from other group members, form the basic content for a preliminary web magazine.  Below are three samples from this year.

Water Myths

The Mythology unit allows students to see how water is used symbolically in storytelling.  Listening to Creation stories from around the world opens our exploration, and then students learn the classical structure of a “Hero’s Journey.”  Students create their own myth following this structure and design an icon for their story, incorporating their group’s water issue as the main theme. View some of the water myths below.
